WORCESTER – Seeking to position itself as a key community resource for years to come, the YWCA announced Tuesday a $23.4 million renovation of its 1 Salem Square facility.
YWCA officials made the announcement at the organization’s 132nd annual meeting, but it has already started a $7.5 million capital campaign. Executive Director Linda Cavaioli said it’s the first capital campaign for the Worcester YWCA in more than 30 years, but she announced it has already raised more than $3.7 million toward its goal.
The balance of the cost of the renovation, which is scheduled to break ground in 2019, will be funded through state and federal historic preservation tax incentives, new market tax credits, bond financing, and state and federal grants.
